What People Are Saying: The World Reacts to GE Foods
Opposition to GE crops and foods has
been strong in parts of the world outside the United States. In a short two-year
span, Europe went from almost complete unawareness of GE foods to a de facto ban
through consumer rejection. Now opposition is taking off in the U.S., the belly
of the biotechnology industry.
There have been thousands of local grassroots
actions, including: educational events, letter writing campaigns,
demonstrations, GE "food dumps," shareholder resolutions, boycotts, regulatory
and political lobbying, conferences and meetings, city resolutions and even crop
pulls and other kinds of direct action.
